Jay & Tessa Engagement Session

I have to start by saying that I have the best couples ever and Tessa and Jay are no exception! The weather for their engagement session didn’t look good but we decided to take a chance and see what happened. I am a natural light photographer, basically. What that really means is I like good light! I don’t like rain or blazing sun. I want it to be perfect summer golden hour light everyday, all day. But since that’s not reality we gotta deal with what we get and in Washington, that means rain. Tessa and Jay were great and didn’t complain at all, well Jay didn’t at least! Just kidding Tessa! I love Tessa and not because she works at the most amazing place on earth either! Jay is a fireman so of course he’s cool too! We had so much fun despite the rain and I am looking forward to shooting their wedding at Shuksan Golf Course in April!

How a Janitor Became a Wedding Photographer

I didn’t really know I wanted to be a photographer. I wasn’t one of those people who took pictures all her life and just knew I had to make this a career. I wasn’t thinking about it, dreaming it or even saying to myself “one day when I’m a world famous wedding photographer”…… although now in my dreams I do that! I did take pictures of my kids a lot but just because I love them and have none of me as a child. I owned a cleaning company and was making a good living off of one client and doing pretty good. It paid our mortgage and although I hated working every night I was thankful for it. I did that for about 4 years. In June of 2010 the client informed me that they needed to find someone else because they were having financial problems and they could only pay about half of what I was charging. I was devastated. It was the beginning of the hardest year of my life. We almost lost our home. As soon as I lost the business I asked God “What am I suppose to do now? I knew I wasn’t going to get a job and put my kids in daycare that was for sure. As I was praying and thinking about it I just thought maybe I could be a photographer. I have no idea why that popped into my head but I do know that it had to have come from God. It had to because I had never thought of it before then. I had a little Nikon d40 and shot on auto for crying out loud and now I want to be photographer and to top it off I wanted to be a wedding photographer! I mean I felt this deeply in my soul! In July of 2010 I started researching cameras and after choosing a few wrong ones I decided to go all out and buy a 5d markii. The first photographer I found on Facebook was the lovely and talented Damaris Mia. Besides asking her countless questions and basically stalking her, I asked her how I should go about finding someone to 2nd shoot for. Diana Marie Photography saw my post. She let me shoot a wedding with her 5 days after I got my camera. I shot the whole wedding in manual! That is how I know this is what God wants me to be doing. Since July of 2010 I have begged, stalked, and bothered more photographers than I care to admit and I want to thank them for taking the time to help me along this journey. I have shot at least 27 weddings and countless engagements, seniors, and some families. Most of the time I take pictures that come out so good I know that God is with me because no one can get that lucky! I know with all my soul that this is what I am suppose to be doing. It took me 42 years to know.

Being a photographer has been one of the biggest blessing of my life. I have met some of the most amazing people and made more friends than I could ever hope for. I pray that I continue on the path that God has for me and that 2012 is a successful year for all us! Thank you so much for stopping by!

Becca & Joe | Snohomish Engagement Session

For Becca and Joe’s engagement session we headed down to Snohomish. Downtown is such cute area with lots of shops and pretty buildings. We walked around and shot for about 3 hours and I could have stayed there all day! Becca and Joe are so much fun and so easy to work with! I am so excited to shoot their wedding this summer at Semiahmoo, it’s gonna be amazing!!

Woods Coffee Christmas Party Photobooth | Bellingham Photographer

A couple weeks ago my friend Jenn asked me if I would be interested in shooting a photobooth for The Woods coffee Christmas Party. Umm heck yes!! The Woods is my happiest place on earth! In fact, technically, the one on the Guide is my office for meeting with brides. Just ask the girls who are sweet enough to let me set up shop there all time! I don’t think a single person loves The Woods more than me so being at the party was a blast! They gave away some fabulous prizes including not one but two 40″ flat screen tv’s, lots of gift cards, a big ole jar of money, and the best prize of all; the Black Woods card for one month! That my friends, gets you free coffee and pastries for one WHOLE MONTH!! I so badly wanted to win this but sadly they didn’t let me play! Here are a few pictures from the photobooth and I got lucky and snapped in time to get a picture of the guy catching the cookie in his mouth to win one of the 40″ tv’s!

Nathan & Leah Engagement Session | Bellingham Engagement Photographer

When I met with Nathan and Leah for the first time to talk about their wedding I felt an instant connection with them. We met at Woods coffee which happens to be my favorite place on the planet. We talked for about 45 minutes about the wedding and they said they were meeting with another photographer but they would let me know soon. I left feeling a little sad thinking they might not go with me but as I got into my car Leah text me and said “It didn’t even take us getting to the car to decide we wanted you!” Yes!! I still have the text.

For their engagement session I thought it would be fun to go up to the mountains and play in the snow. While I was getting dressed that morning in long underwear trying to squeeze into my already tight jeans, I thought “Wow I was I thinking, it suppose to be 28 degrees today!” I’m so glad we did though! We had an awesome time, the pictures came out beautiful and I wasn’t freezing at all!

Leah and Nathan I cannot tell you how excited I am for you wedding! I love you two!!

Zach & Megan | Bellingham Wedding Photographer

Things have been crazy busy and I’m trying to catch up on blogging! This was such a fun wedding! Megan and Zach are the sweetest couple and I was honored that they wanted me to capture their day! We were a little worried about rain but it turned out to be a gorgeous day. It was a little cold during the portraits but Megan was such a champ!
